Department of Engineering and Computing

Engineering at Franciscan University is embarking on an exciting period of growth as we inaugurate The Department of Engineering and Computing, move to the new office, classroom, and laboratory space planned in Christ the Teacher building, and welcome the first 4-year degree students in Mechanical and Software Engineering majors.  These developments will occur as we continue to provide opportunities for transfer programs with other Universities in a variety of engineering disciplines, as well as multi-faceted degree options available with the Department of Business, including MBA and Entrepreneurship options.

Fundraising for the Engineering Department will help to provide:

  • Equipment and Materials for hands-on laboratory spaces

    • Hydraulics benches
    • Tensile testers
    • Robotics Exploration Kits
    • CNC Router
    • Consumable materials such as plastic/wood cut used in laser cutters and plastic filament used in 3D printers

  • Stipends and Material Support for student research projects

    • We provide ongoing research opportunities for students, both throughout the semester and for more intensive summer projects.  These experiences help solidify and develop what students have learned in the classroom and make them competitive in the market for both careers and graduate education.
    • In addition to the materials and equipment needed to facilitate this work, we provide student stipends for research projects occurring during the summer, so that students are able to live on campus while pursuing these opportunities.

  • Annual Engineering Retreats

    • Engineering education at Franciscan has a programmatic approach to virtue formation for all students.  As part of this commitment to support ongoing discernment and virtue development among students, we offer annual retreats

  • Conference Travel

    • To provide opportunities for students to present their work and network with others in the field, as well as to provide continuing education and development of our professors, we look to support travel to conferences such as the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the American Society of Engineering Education
